kpix.com. there are fewer air traffic controllers on the job this morning. those positions across the country are being furloughed due to the federal spending cuts. kpix 5 reporter elissa harrington is at sfo this morning to tell us what these furloughs mean for all of our bay area airports. good morning. reporter: what these furloughs mean to travelers is that you could be seeing some delays. some major airports could see delays up to 10 minutes to an hour because there are fewer air traffic controllers on the job this morning. across the country, those positions are being furloughed because of federal spending cuts. airports like l.a.x. and chicago's o'hare are expected to feel the impact with major delays. if flight controllers at sfo escape the furloughs bay area travelers could still feel a domino effect. >> because other airports such as atlanta, dallas/fort worth, chicago, new york and washington will be affected, so the big hubs are going to be

affected. if they cough, we catch cold. >> reporter: airlines filed a lawsuit against the faa on friday asking a federal court to stop the furlough of air traffic controllers. faa officials have declined to comment on e suit. livet sfo, elissa harrington, kpix 5. >> thank you. earlier this month, the faa delayed the closure of control towers at 149 airports until june. checking bay area headlines this morning, richmond police are searching for two gunmen who shot and injured a man on saturday night on griffin drive. police found the victim in his car. they say the man was targeted. witnesses say the suspects got away in a white suv shortly after the shooting. that was around 8 p.m. on saturday. in hayward a young man who was shot has died. the 26-year-old man was shot saturday around 10 p.m. in the driveway of a home on franklin avenue. he was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment but died of

his injuries yesterday. so far, police have no suspects. in alameda, a coast guard cutter has returned home greeted by joyous families yesterday. they spent three months in wateuthe california. mbers resc on a sailboat and raided a boat with more than 2 tons of marijuana. he had his birthday off for four days and he's back. >> it was a great weekend, lots of sunshine and very warm weather. right now very nice temperatures already. and i think toward the afternoon plenty of sunshine maybe even a little bit warmer outside. temperatures right now 59 degrees in san jose. 57 in san francisco. and 56 degrees in fairfield. we have a dominant ridge of high pressure sitting overhead. so it's going to crank up the temperatures again today maybe even a little bit warmer than yesterday. so some beautiful weather all the way to the coastline once again and then we'll start to see gradual cooling clout the

county can no longer give single use plastic shopping bags to their customers. among the towns taking part in the bag ban is daly city where over the weekend people picked up litter part of an earth day event. the bag ordinance follows the trend set by san jose and other cities to encourage customers to bring their own reusable bags. recyclable paper bags will be available for a 10-cent fee. the ordinance covers most of san mateo county cities and unincorporated areas, as well. an annual celebration in golden gate park left an ugly mess. according to the "chronicle," this week's 420 party drew nearly 15,000 people and they all left a mountain of trash. the cost to clean it up $10,000. a member of the oakland school board is expected to become the district's acting superintendent soon. gary yee is expected to be named a candidate. the school board will vote wednesday. yee has been on the school

nimitz. 880 in oakland as you pass the oakland coliseum, nice and quiet and not too much roadwork. 66 all the way towards downtown is extra quiet on this monday morning. live look at the san mateo bridge. 14 minutes is the drive time out of hayward toward foster city. 101 and trimble, northbound looks good. i mentioned heading out of south san jose. there is some overnight roadwork but it's closer towards bailey and continuing towards coyote creek golf drive. they have a couple of lanes blocked. so far heading northbound up in towards santa clara everything is quiet in both directions near the trimble exit. and 280 and the guadalupe parkway are still all moving at top speeds. so once again here's a live look at the silicon valley commute. westbound 237 between 880 and 101 is nice and clear.

six minutes east bay drive time so far no issue up and down 580, the nimitz or the eastshore freeway and i promised you a check of mass transit. so everything is so far good to go. bart systemwide on tune. bart, muni, caltrain and ace all on time. that's a check of your "timesaver traffic." back to you guys. >> thank you. 4:44. new this morning, 5 people including the gunman were shot and killed during a shootout at an apartment complex upnorth say buets were flying when they arrived at the scene. they tried to help two injured men in a parking lot when one of them reached for a gun. a total of 8 officers opened fire. investigators later found other victims at two different apartments. no word on why that shooting happened. today investigators in texas will continue to examine a blast crater in the town of west. they are hoping the hole contains clues to what started a fire that triggered a deadly explosion at a fertilizer plant. 14 people mostly first responders were killed in last

week's explosion. hundreds of other people were hurt and about 50 homes were destroyed. >> we have a large crater. and you guys have seen photos of some of that i'm sure. we have a crater there. >> the explosion took a third of the small town's fire and emergency medical services force. at mass yesterday, townspeople leaned on faith and each other to cope with the grief. the mississippi river is expected to crest in some spots today. the river has reached 10 to 12 feet above flood stage and people living along the banks in illinois and mississippi have now evacuated. over the weekend, two people in indiana and one in missouri died when their cars were swept off flooded roads. the water has also swamped hundreds of thousands of acres of farmland. apple, amazon, caterpillar, at&t, ford, starbucks, exxonmobil, just some of the companies scheduled to come out with earnings reports this

week. more than 80 companies reported last week. 72% did better than analysts expected. stocks lost ground last week though despite closing higher on friday. the dow up 10. nasdaq up about 40. and the futures are up today. so that's good. investors who held on to their boeing stock after the new 787 dreamliner was grounded are reaping the rewards now. the faa approved a fix for the battery system that kept dreamliner out of service for three months. boeing stocks surged 2% on friday up 19% from its low point this year. and another major rating agency has stripped britain of its aaa credit score. fitch down gridded them one knowledge to aa-plus -- downgraded them one notch to aa- plus saying they can't get a handle on their debt. the latest lundberg survey shows the california average for a gallon of regular gas dropped 9 cents over the past
